This Contemporary Wyoming Abode Showcases Luxury Home Design At Its Finest
From awe-inspiring views to artful aesthetics, a contemporary Wyoming residence conceived by CLB Architects eloquently speaks to the most authentic marker of luxury: home as center stage for enhancing life experiences and fostering family connections.
The Mountain West’s wild and wondrous beauty is on vivid display in Wyoming, where the untamed landscape and immense open spaces evoke a heady sense of freedom along with a quiet charm. The state’s magnificence certainly captivated the couple behind this property, a bluff-side acreage chosen because its unimpeded views of the Teton range lining a pastoral valley literally stole their breath. “It’s kind of a Goldilocks location,” notes one of the owners, pointing out that the away-from-it-all setting is still within 20 minutes of an airport, grocery store and ski resort. But beyond practicalities, the site evoked the magic they first felt years ago when falling in love with Wyoming as a family. The residence the couple conceived is imagined as a legacy home, aimed at being the place where their three teen- and college-aged kids, (eventual) grandkids and others will want to gather. To make certain their children were invested, the pair even brought them to design meetings. One of their sons, memorably, even noted to the architectural team that he felt the staircase was in the wrong spot—and they moved it.

That’s just one example of the clients’ involvement in crafting their sanctuary, recall architect Eric Logan and interior designer Sarah Kennedy, who together helmed the closely integrated design team. There are moments of fun, among them a station tucked into the ski room where you can grab hot chocolate and warm sandwiches; art galore, as the owners are collectors who don’t shy from color; and a custom-size, infinity-edge lap pool that arguably has the West’s best view. Construction of the project was meticulously overseen by general contractors, led by Daniel Pelsinger and Matt Dimitroff, alongside landscape architects Bonny Hershberger and Matt Kissel.

The home is distinctive, a boomerang-shaped layout carved into the slope that allows for a variety of contrasts. For instance, its single-story approach unfurls into two levels cascading toward the valley, a central courtyard plays off the long-range views, and intimate inner spaces act as frames for the outward drama. Designed to rest lightly against the land, its concrete, steel and wood material palette echoes the rugged terrain and converses with the surroundings. “As a firm, we feel fortunate to be interpreters guiding our clients through conversations about how to occupy a space,” comments Logan of the design process. “It’s a privilege to listen to their needs and to the property, ultimately wringing the best from the attributes of the place.”
Creating intriguing artful moments in each room was particularly important, adds Kennedy, gesturing to the kitchen’s curvaceous island and to a custom-commissioned dichroic glass sculpture that casts sparkle across the lounge. “We pride ourselves on working closely with each client to create deeply personal and thoughtfully crafted spaces,” reflects the designer. “And, a place that offers you the ability to connect to family, to each other, to the land—well, that’s really the most amazing luxury you could have.”
