Known for its extensive selection and thoughtful design support, TileBar is expanding its brick-and-mortar presence. This growth builds upon the brand’s two original spaces in New York and New Jersey, along with three locations that debuted just last year in Washington, D.C., Massachusetts and North Carolina. This year, TileBar will open six additional showrooms—another in New York and North Carolina, two in Virginia, plus Colorado and Texas. Among them, the Dallas outpost marks the company’s largest to date with a 9,000-square-foot flagship. In the bright and welcoming space designed by global architecture firm Gensler, guests can workshop ideas and draw inspiration from a full sample library. “We’re not just building another tile store,” says CEO Ira Melnitsky, who joined TileBar nearly a year ago. “We’re creating a community hub in places with a strong design focus. People can come in, sit down and tell us about their project.” With an ever-expanding portfolio—including spring introductions like oversize chevrons and classic octagon and dot patterns—these in-store interactions play a key role in shaping new product lines. “We’re a company full of good listeners,” he says. “It’s a two-way street: We take care of our valued clients, and in turn, they inspire our next steps.”

Miami architect Max Strang was on a flight to the Bahamas when he looked down and saw the island of Andros. This, he knew, would become the name of his newest venture: Andros Home, a design resource hub in West Palm Beach offering furnishings as well as storage solutions. Here, Strang shares more about how he is introducing prestigious American and European labels to the area.

What inspired you to open Andros Home?

The idea was very simple: Let’s curate some of the best brands and bring them to Palm Beach under one roof in a multiline showroom. Additionally, we wanted to provide a sophisticated logistics center to support local designers.

Tell us about the inventory.

We wanted to mix well-known names such as Tribù, Verellen, Van Rossum, Poliform, Aguirre, Royal Botania, Sossego and Kettal, with other makers not as widely recognized.

Walk us through the setup.

Andros is an 18,500-square-foot facility that includes an interior showroom, an outdoor lifestyle area and a logistics center. While the architecture shouldn’t be a distraction, the space is stylish with soaring ceilings and effortless circulation through different vignettes.

What can we expect this season?

Andros is envisioned as a vibrant hub for collaboration, inspiration and creativity, so we plan to frequently host events.

Perhaps no other craft demands as delicate a balance between rigor and improvisation as glassmaking. Portland-based Lynn Read knows this well. Since founding his studio, Vitreluxe, in 1999, he has walked the delicate line between art and utility, creating glass vessels and light fixtures that are as alluring as they are functional. LUXE spoke with Read about his past, present and future in glass.

How did you get started?

I came to glass through painting. Color was my first language—its emotional weight, both grounding and atmospheric, drew me in. Over time, my interest in materiality and in how color could exist in physical form brought me to glass. It holds light and color in motion like nothing else. Its malleability is endlessly versatile.

What has kept you in glassmaking all these years?

Glass is a profoundly honest material; working with it inspires a level of craftsmanship that’s become central to my life. It demands presence and rewards patience. Over time, I’ve come to see glass as a philosophy of making that is rooted in discipline yet always open to improvisation. That tension between control and surrender is what keeps me engaged.

What’s next for Vitreluxe?

This winter, I’m opening my Portland showroom to the public on the first Saturday of every month and by appointment. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m excited to connect with the community. Artistically, my next adventure is upcycling salvaged window glass. Drawing on the chemistry knowledge I’ve gained over the past two years, I’m creating a soft, tinted glass palette of my own. Whatever the form, my work is meant to invite reflection—to hold space for beauty that is felt as much as seen.

Ryan S. Hammond’s by-appointment showroom has a new, more expansive home in San Francisco’s Design District. Within its 1,200 square feet, the industry veteran now represents additional local and national brands. The extra room translates to vignettes as well as fabric racks to peruse. Here, Hammond shares more details.

What prompted your recent move?

I opened a small studio last year and quickly outgrew it. When this larger space became available, I jumped on the opportunity to expand. It has a rustic, industrial vibe that I knew I could work with. At the old location, I didn’t have much furniture on display. Now, I feature multiple pieces from each of my vendors, with full vignettes that are thoughtfully curated to showcase something from all my lines. I also wanted a space that could accommodate events and allow me to host clients in a more engaging, social setting.

Tell us about some of the local lines in the showroom.

I represent CW Stockwell, Aderyn Studio and Guild by LMI. In addition to these lines, I feature my own collection of personally designed wallcoverings under the label Atelier RSH—born in San Francisco and very close to my heart.

How do you decide which brands to represent?

I look for lines that are design forward, high quality and have a distinct point of view. Everything I carry has to feel intentional, with craftsmanship and a story behind it. I recently added Sanderson Design Group, Maya Romanoff and Bella Furniture to the showroom. I also carry Aux Abris, an extraordinary wallcovering line created by my close friend Karen Robert, whose work is bold, imaginative and beautifully executed.

On a mission to share their passion for eye-catching aesthetics and surprising discoveries, husband-and-wife team David and Katherine Dewey opened a sleek new location for Austin’s Metaphoric showroom. Designed to feel like stepping into a thoughtfully curated home, the light-filled space highlights furniture, art and decor sought out by the Deweys through their extensive networks in Texas, Latin America and Europe. Each piece is selected for its authenticity and ability to create connection, blending contemporary elegance with warm, eclectic charm. Here, the duo tells LUXE about their new range of offerings.

What inspired the move?

We wanted a place that matched our vision, and we found the perfect location right in the heart of Austin’s design conversation. The showroom was envisioned as a destination where you can specify a custom sofa, discover a one-of-a-kind accessory or simply connect over a cup of coffee while surrounded by beautiful things.

Why did you decide to feature decor and art in addition to furnishings?

Furniture sets the foundation, but art and accessories bring a room to life. Our team has a strong background in art, with roots in Paris and within Latin America’s creative community.

What are some highlights from your showroom?

Papadatos’ coffee tables, case goods and sofas stand out for their sculptural forms and craftsmanship. We also take pride in our art program, sourcing works from emerging and established Latin American artists.

In a move that signifies its commitment to the Western mountain locale, Design Within Reach will be opening a leading-edge 10,000-square-foot showroom in Salt Lake City in November. “Many people still view modern design as unapproachable, in that it strictly consists of classic pieces that belong in a museum,” shares Debbie Propst, president of global retail for Design Within Reach’s parent company, MillerKnoll. “But when you step into our evolved store designs, that notion can be shifted instantly.” Alongside iconic midcentury modern classics—such as Herman Miller’s Eames lounge chairs, Marcel Breuer’s dining chairs and George Nelson’s bubble lamps—originals from pioneering brands such as Mabeo Studio, Beni and Perron Pillo complement the eclectic mix. “We feature designs that celebrate modern craftsmanship without being pretentious—it is meant to be worn in, not out,” Propst concludes. “We believe that a life well designed is a life well lived.”

Lauded for two decades worth of beautifully built residences, Kurt Bielawski recently debuted KD Biel, a Dallas trove of stylish high-end home goods. The new project is a return to form for Bielawski: Before founding his construction company, More Design + Build, he was an apparel buyer. His stately room at the Round Top Designer Show House served as a sneak peek of what’s to come with the new concept, which features a selection of timeless furniture and heirloom-worthy accents. Read on as Bielawski shares more.

What inspired you to launch the brand?

I have wanted to do this for years. I also think there is a lack of well-designed merchandise that can stand the test of time and still be beautiful and useful. KD Biel hopes to fill this void: design-focused, artisanal, high-quality.

What can guests expect to find?

KD Biel will be merchandised as rooms in a home, including garden, living, library, bed, bath, kitchen, pantry and fine dining. Most of what we carry is exclusive to Dallas, and the rest is limited distribution. The 70-some brands include celebrated names, such as The Urban Electric Co. and J. & L. Lobmeyr.

What are a few of your favorite offerings?

My custom furniture pieces for the KD Biel Collection, because they took a lot of time to perfect; East Otis, a niche furniture line made by the nicest people; and Perfumer H, whose fragrances, candles and tea I fell in love with when I walked into their London store.
